What To Expect With Microneedling

Microneedling is a customized treatment because every patient is unique. The dermatology and aesthetic experts at RefinedMD control the settings, allowing for deeper or shallower punctures into the dermis. How many treatments will you need? It depends, but you’ll see results after just one treatment. However, most patients require 3 to 5 treatments for optimal results and long-term benefits. During the healing process, which is typically minor (you can often return to non-taxing tasks such as office work immediately), you can try out skincare product samples from the goodie bag we provide.

RefinedMD also offers Genius® RF (radiofrequency) microneedling at our Los Gatos, California, practice.

I’m so glad I found RefinedMD! I have been here for two procedures; had some facial moles removed and just had Microneedling done. I am very pleased with the results of both. Dr. Swengel is very professional and very nice. He took the time to talk about the condition of my skin and skin care overall.

What Is AquaGold®?

AquaGold caters to those seeking a multi-faceted approach to youthful, glowing skin. This treatment offers a personalized blend of ingredients for optimal results. Similar to microneedling, it uses a professional-grade tool that painlessly pierces the skin, allowing maximum absorption. However, unlike microneedling, AquaGold gently scratches the skin’s surface for a more comfortable experience—neither an injection nor a puncture, just a gentle scratching technique that guarantees excellent results. Merging the benefits of Dermalinfusion® and microneedling ensures clients achieve maximum results without downtime, delivering profound advantages from a superficial application to the dermis and epidermis.

What To Expect

You and your skincare expert will fully customize the ingredients for your unique “cocktail,” which is then placed into a specialized vial. Popular ingredients include hyaluronic acid (the same component found in dermal fillers and present in the body), peptides, micro-dose neurotoxins (such as BOTOX®), and vitamin C. We apply an anesthetic to ensure comfort, followed by a quick application of the one-of-a-kind serum combination. The entire process takes only 30 minutes and is always administered by a registered nurse (RN) or an equally skilled skin expert.

If you are seeking quick results without open wounds or a recovery period, AquaGold is the solution. Thanks to a shallow delivery of micro-droplets rich with skin-rejuvenating serum, you can turn back the clock and boost your glow. AquaGold serums are packed with micro-nutrients for the skin, and the craft of the (skin) cocktail is so advanced that it will make bartenders envious.

Discuss options with our team tailored to your skin type and areas of concern. You may also want to add a skin tightening treatmentdermal fillers for semi-permanent added plumpness, or BOTOX to ward off future lines and wrinkles.

Microneedling FAQs

When should I exfoliate after microneedling?

You must balance the importance of exfoliation as part of your skincare routine against the need for your skin to heal after microneedling. That means being patient, so you don’t compromise your microneedling results. We recommend waiting about 5 days before exfoliating your skin.

Is at-home microneedling safe?

The microneedling devices used at med spas have needles that penetrate deep into the skin. Microneedling rollers used at home barely penetrate the skin, so they can be safe in certain circumstances, but they can’t produce noticeable results.

Can microneedling damage the skin?

When performed by an experienced and qualified provider, microneedling is a safe and effective skin rejuvenation treatment. Because it creates micro-injuries that trigger the skin’s healing response, it’s important not to get microneedling treatments too often. At-home microneedling is the most common reason for skin damage.

Can microneedling cause acne?

Some patients, especially those with oily or acne-prone skin, may notice whiteheads after microneedling. These are usually temporary flare-ups that arise because microneedling causes inflammation, which can trigger breakouts. Additionally, bacteria may be introduced into the skin after a treatment, making skin hygiene particularly important.

What is a microneedling purge?

After a microneedling treatment, the accelerated turnover of skin cells brings impurities to the surface, which may look like an acne breakout. It’s actually a good sign that the skin is “detoxifying.”

How long after microneedling can I get a chemical peel?

If you plan to get a chemical peel after microneedling, you should wait at least 2 weeks. Many patients get a chemical peel before a microneedling treatment because it removes dead skin cells and makes the serums used after microneedling more effective.
