19 Apr BTL Background and Technologies
BTL Aesthetics is the maker behind your favorite non-invasive procedures including Emsculpt, Emface, Emtone, and Emsella. All are available at RefinedMD, where we do all of the research and heavy lifting when it comes to identifying the best, safest, and most effective treatments and technologies for our clients. However, it’s also important that you know why we’ve chosen to include these science-backed technologies in our suite of options. BTL is renowned as a pioneer in both the aesthetic and physiotherapy fields with 300 engineers behind every innovation.
Both the original Emsculpt and Emsella debuted in 2019 after years of research and testing. Emsculpt and the next generation, Emsculpt NEO, use high-intensity electromagnetic stimulation that makes targeted muscles perform 20,000 supramaximal contractions in just 30 minutes per site. It’s identical to doing 20,000 strength moves like crunches, lunges, squats, curls, and so on. Emsculpt NEO is the original technology paired with radiofrequency (RF) energy that melts away small amounts of fat for additional sculpting and contouring. We offer both because sometimes you don’t want to melt fat (like on the booty for many women) while in other areas you do (like the abs). Emsculpt and Emsculpt NEO are the most well-known of BTL technologies, but there are a few more you should know about.
The BTL World
BTL might not be a household name (yet), but the company has been operating for over 25 years with two divisions—aesthetics and medical. They have over 55 offices around the world and their technology has been involved in scores of peer-reviewed studies. Safety and efficacy is at the heart of what they do, which is why their technology has been tested in multi-center studies using the most advanced methods like MRIs and CT scans. On average, studies have found that 96 percent of people are satisfied with the body sculpting results and 95 percent are satisfied when used to treat their incontinence.
That’s where the medical aspect of BTL comes into play. Emsella, which is available at RefinedMD, is a pelvic floor physiotherapy treatment that is totally non-invasive. You can even keep all of your clothes on during your treatment. Those struggling with incontinence, including post-partum people, have enjoyed great success with Emsella. There is only so much Kegel exercises can do. Emsella actually strengthens the pelvic floor through external stimulation while you sit back and relax.
The BTL suite is comprised of technology and products decades in the making. In the beginning, BTL was all about focusing on low-level magnetic fields, but has since expanded and advanced greatly. Eight years ago, the company developed its HIFEM technology followed by seven years of development and numerous patents (many more are pending). In other words, BTL and its products are far from an overnight success.
Today, you can enjoy two additional products to achieve the results you want, including Emtone and Emface. Emtone is the BTL solution for reducing the appearance of cellulite. It combines heat with pressure to loosen the stiff fibers that cause cellulite. Lotions and topicals aren’t going to help much when it comes to cellulite, although hydration is important for healthy skin overall and might help subtly reduce its appearance. But if you want to seriously tackle cellulite, you need to go below the surface where the fibrous matrix is happening. Routine maintenance sessions will be required to sustain those results.
Doing an About Face
And Emface? It takes the concept of face yoga to an entirely new level. By targeting certain facial muscles, making them stronger, you can achieve a toned, lifted, tighter look. Muscles all work the same, whether in the body or face. When they are strong, you’ll look younger and healthier. On average, four sessions spaced about one month apart is ideal for optimal results. You can also pair Emface with other minimally invasive treatments like Botox. Botox freezes muscles that cause lines and furrowing while Emface tones up other muscles. It’s a one-two punch for success.
