22 Jul Emtone vs. Qwo
Gone are the days when fixing cellulite was reserved for a painstakingly long, painful surgery. Today, there are two options, Emtone and Qwo, but which one is right for you? At RefinedMD we carry both because we are committed to offering you all of the best, safest, and most effective solutions for your skin care needs. Cellulite is a harmless condition, but it affects more than 90 percent of women (and some men), regardless of weight or age. Although carrying excess weight and getting older increases your odds of developing cellulite—and its severity—cellulite is typically not vanquished with losing weight. There are plenty of young, fit people with cellulite (just look at celebrity beach photos). The good news is that there are solutions.
Let’s take a look at what Emtone and Qwo do so you can get an idea of which is best for you. Of course, the only way to know for certain is to schedule a consultation. Also bear in mind that while moisturizing the cellulite area is important (as hydrated skin always looks smoother and more supple), there is no magical topical that will actually reduce cellulite. Cellulite is caused when the fibrous matrix of connective tissue near the skin’s surface has fat that squeezes between the gaps. This is why cellulite most often appears on the buttocks and thighs, where a good amount of fat is necessary, particularly for women.
Options for Cellulite Reduction
Emtone is a device from the makers of Emsculpt and Emsculpt NEO that uses a combination of targeted pressure and radiofrequency energy to soften the bands that cause the appearance of cellulite. Like all BLT technologies, it is a completely non-invasive treatment. Alternatively, Qwo is a series of Clostridium histolyticum-aaes injections that temporarily dissolves those bands. It is considered minimally invasive because it is an injection. Both are FDA-approved and have been shown to drastically reduce cellulite. However, neither are permanent. Even surgically snipping the bands is not permanent, as the bands will eventually reconnect. Both Emtone and Qwo can be used repeatedly in future years to keep and sustain results.
There are some clear differences between Emtone and Qwo. First, right now Qwo is only approved to be injected into the buttocks of women. If you are a woman and your primary cellulite region is your buttocks, Qwo is a great option. However, if you are a man or anyone whose cellulite is located in other areas—such as the legs, stomach, and arms—Emtone and surgery are the only options for you. That alone might be the determining factor in which treatment you choose, but there are also other major differences.
Getting Rid of Cellulite
Emtone is non-invasive, while Qwo is minimally invasive. This can be a deciding factor for some people. With Emtone, the treated area might feel quite warm and at the peak of treatment the skin’s surface is just over 111 degrees. However, most clients do not need a numbing cream. There is no downtime for Emtone and you will see some results right away, with full results at three months. Most people need five Emtone treatments 5 – 10 days apart for optimal results.
With Qwo, you have injections directly in the treatment site. When this happens, the enzyme targets the fibrous bands while also redistributing fat cells into a smoother look. Most people require three sessions three weeks apart. After injections, you might experience significant soreness, bruising, and swelling for up to two weeks. The bruising is not caused by the needle, but rather the enzyme. However, since Qwo is only used for treating buttocks in women, these temporary side effects are easy to hide. “Downtime” from Qwo varies person to person and is strictly driven by how much the bruising affects day to day life. Some people are comfortable getting right back to their daily routine while others take a few days off from more strenuous activities, like exercising. Results from Emtone last about one year, but results from Qwo can last 1 – 5 years.
