13 Aug Should I get IPL or BBL?
Broadband light (BBL) and intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy both use light to treat a variety of skin conditions, but there are also differences between the two. During your consultation at RefinedMD, you’ll discover the benefits of each and find out which approach is best for you and your skin goals.
Both BBL and IPL deliver light energy into the skin and then convert it to heat. The “target” of the skin is called a chromophore, and it might be hyperpigmentation of the skin or hair, excessive redness in blood vessels, or even a type of bacteria that are causing acne. When the heat meets its target, it gets absorbed and damages the problematic tissue. The “target” gets eliminated and healing begins, however it’s a special kind of healing where collagen and elastin are especially encouraged.
Broadband light (bbl)
BBL is often considered the “standard” for light therapy because it’s one of the most advanced. There’s minimal downtime and the benefits are long-term. The accuracy of BBL is very impressive, and the results are astonishing. However, just like with IPL, it’s designed for specific issues. They include addressing pigmentation, rosacea, acne, bruising, broken capillaries, and generally bettering skin tone and texture while minimizing the signs of aging. BBL pauses cellular aging while turning back the clock.
Intense pulsed light (ipl)
If you have acne, BBL is for you. However, if your biggest concern is hyper-pigmentation, IPL is often the star. Of course, IPL can also treat the signs of aging and redness as well. Choosing between the two will require a consultation so you can discuss your skin needs and goals with a skincare expert. Sometimes, a combination of the two is actually the best approach!
