22 Oct Lip Augmentation vs. Lip Lift: Which is for Me?
“Getting your lips done” can mean a few things, and at Refined MD we know that sometimes the esthetic lingo can be a little confusing. In most cases, patients who are 50 and better often opt for a lip lift. If your lips are thin and elongated due to aging (and not “just genetics”), a lip lift might be for you. This procedure works by shortening the skin above the upper lip while lifting the pink part of the upper lip. The results are lips with more volume and a bigger pout.
Not Just Lip Service
Lip lifts are minor surgical procedures. A local anesthetic is injected to ensure comfort, followed by a tiny incision made right below the nostril. This allows for a small part of skin to be removed in order to achieve gorgeous results. Patients require sutures for about one week, but they’re hidden beneath the nostril and are barely noticeable. The entire procedure takes less than an hour, and the results are immediate and permanent.
In some cases, younger patients may also benefit from a lip lift. However, lip augmentation is usually a better fit for those under 50. Augmenting the lips is usually done with a filler like Restylane or Juvederm. These “injectables” enhance lip volume and give you an immediate bigger pout. Most lip fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid, which is already produced by the connective tissue of the body.
Lip fillers are injected deep into the skin to create fullness and improve lip symmetry. There are no incisions and no downtime. Most lip augmentation appointments take about 15 minutes, and results can be temporary (a few months) or last up to two years depending on the type of lip filler you choose.
