Meet the Cosmelan Peel

At RefinedMD, we’re always adding treatments and procedures so that you can rest assured you’re always getting the best and latest options. Chemical peels have long been a favorite for aesthetic clients because they’re a full-face (plus neck and chest if you’d like!) treatment, meaning that they address a large area of skin. Unlike targeted treatments that only affect specific parts of the face and body, a chemical peel works by literally peeling away the top layer(s) of skin. This reveals younger-looking skin below the surface, but also tells the body to start producing more collagen at the peel site. All traumas, even controlled traumas like a chemical peel, kick-start collagen production.

So, what makes chemical peels different from one another? How do you know which one is best for you? A chemical peel is a concoction of various chemicals, and working with a skin care expert who understands not only the workings of chemical peels but also your unique skin is essential. The best chemical peel for you might not be the best one for your best friend. That’s why we offer a range of chemical peels, each proven to be highly effective.

We’d like to introduce you to the latest addition to our chemical peel family: the Cosmelan Peel.

What Makes the Cosmelan Peel Unique?

Unlike some other chemical peels, the Cosmelan Peel is known for being able to battle melasma. It’s a pigmentation buster in general, but melasma is the most stubborn form of hyperpigmentation. Technically, there’s no cure for melasma—but with the Cosmelan Peel, there’s now a very powerful tool for eliminating and reducing the signs of melasma. If you struggle with melasma, you’ve probably tried all forms of products and other types of chemical peels. This isn’t like anything that’s come before it. This could very well be your answer to bidding farewell to melasma signs for good.

Melasma is often caused by hormones (which is how it earned the nickname “mask of pregnancy”) but is also routinely exacerbated by heat. Before the Cosmelan Peel, other chemical peels, along with IPL and BBL, were the typical recommendations for melasma. They help some clients, but not all. In fact, since lasers produce heat, sometimes they can even make melasma worse! Microneedling can also help, but this really stimulates collagen, so it improves the look of the skin but doesn’t actually get rid of melasma. The same is true of some other medium-depth chemical peels. They might help, but once again they are creating heat and that’s not always the best approach for a melasma client.

The Cosmelan Peel is a 4-phase treatment

The Cosmelan Peel is a 4-phase treatment to de-pigment and it works at the cellular level. It actually blocks the enzyme responsible for hyperpigmentation, tyrosinase, from forming. That means the Cosmelan Peel not only helps to reduce current melasma, but it can prevent future melasma breakouts. Technically, the Cosmelan Peel is still a chemical peel but it’s not like any you’ve experienced before.

For most clients, chemical peels sit on the skin for 8 – 10 minutes. It’s common to feel an intense burning sensation (there’s that heat again). However, the Cosmelan Peel sits on the skin for 8 – 10 hours. It’s comprised of totally different ingredients than other chemical peels, which create the same results as other chemical peels but without the burning sensation. It’s largely made of hydroquinone and other pigment-fighting acids like ascorbic acid, kojic acid, azelaic acid, phytic acid, and retinoic acid to work at a very deep level without requiring heat.

What to Expect with Cosmelan Peel Treatment

The Cosmelan Peel begins in the office and looks like a typical face mask. Clients leave with the mast on, with clear instructions on when and how to remove it (this may vary a bit person to person). In the two weeks following the treatment, some redness, tenderness, and peeling may occur—after all, this is still a chemical peel! However, many clients feel confident enough to take Zoom calls or run necessary errands during this time.

The end result? Skin that is clearer, brighter, smoother—and less pigmentated. Learn more and book your Cosmelan Peel today by starting a chat down below, completing the form, or calling RefinedMD at (408) 688-2082.
