10 Feb Sofwave Goes SUPERB
What’s even better than Sofwave for cellulite? The recent announcement of the FDA clearance of Sofwave SUPERB technology. Sofwave is one of the most popular cellulite treatments at RefinedMD, and things are about to get even better with breakthrough technology additions. Sofwave Medical is a leader in energy-based aesthetic treatments that are non-invasive and yet highly effective. The chairman and co-founder of the company says that with SUPERB technology now approved, they can continue to “improve the appearance of cellulite in the short-term.” Over 90 percent of women have cellulite, and it doesn’t matter your health, size, or weight—even celebs sport cellulite. However, this harmless and common condition can really do a number on your self-esteem, so minimizing tops the list for many people.
For years, there were few safe and effective solutions for cellulite. Topical treatments really just hydrate the skin temporarily, which is of course going to slightly improve the appearance of cellulite. Skin should be moisturized anyway, but cellulite is deeper than the surface. It is caused when fat “pushes” through the rigid fibrous connective tissue underneath the skin. Losing weight isn’t going to help because people, especially women, naturally have fat in some areas like the buttocks and thighs. There is a surgical approach in which the bands are snipped, but this is painful, time consuming, comes with surgical risks, and isn’t even permanent. There is no forever solution to cellulite, as these bands will always reconnect, but now there are non-invasive solutions that can release bands for a few months so you can get smooth, youthful skin again.
A SUPERB Treatment for Cellulite
In order to receive FDA clearance, the makers of Sofwave submitted evidence of effectiveness. In total, 68 women were treated with the latest Sofwave technology in four different sites. They all got two treatments spaced 2 – 4 weeks apart on one side of their thigh or buttocks. Photographs were then collected at both baseline and three months post-treatment. Blinded independent reviewers were able to grade the pre- and post-photos, ranking them on the Cellulite Severity Scale (CSS). Improvement was also gauged with the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale and Laxity Scale. Plus, safety assessments were considered during and after each session.
After the study, the reviewers were able to identify the correct post-treatment sites in 89 percent of the patients. There were no adverse events during the study. According to the CEO of Sofwave, “The FDA’s clearance of SUPERB for use in cellulite could not have come at a timelier moment.” There is a growing demand for non-invasive cellulite treatments, particularly in the wake of Qwo being pulled from the market for safety concerns. Qwo was an injectable specifically for use in cellulite of women’s buttocks, but the bruising was so severe that it is no longer approved for use in the United States. Sofwave has no such intensive bruising side effects.
SUPERB Everywhere
The technology of SUPERB isn’t just for cellulite treatment. In fact, in 2021 the FDA cleared usage for lifting the brows and under-chin area as well as the neck. Plus, Sofwave’s SUPERB technology also has FDA clearance as a non-invasive treatment for lines and wrinkles. However, at RefinedMD we prefer Thermage FLX for treating lines and wrinkles on the face and body as it is faster, quicker, and lasts longer than comparable non-invasive treatment (it uses thermal heating for laxity lifting).
However, we do love Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam (SUPERB!) for cellulite treatment. It can be used on men and women alike in all cellulite areas. It comes with a cool transducer for optimal comfort while creating a 3D thermal zone spread that heats up the area to just the right temperature and depth. In less than an hour, you can tackle cellulite where it begins. Skin tightening may be recommended along with your cellulite treatment, as the two can go hand in hand. Toning the muscles can also help reduce the appearance of cellulite, and you can boost your gym routine with Emsculpt NEO. In some cases, particularly for those who are a little overweight, losing unwanted fat can help with the appearance of cellulite (but not remove it entirely). CoolSculpting is a great solution for those wanting to non-invasively contour and sculpt their body. All of these treatments pair well together.
