AquaGold is Microinfusion, Not Microneedling?

While AquaGold is often touted as the next generation of microneedling, that isn’t exactly correct. Both treatments are available at RefinedMD because we want to give our clients all of the best options, but it’s important to understand the difference between these two treatments. Microneedling, which has been around in some form for over 100 years, is considered a minimally invasive treatment and uses tiny needles to puncture the skin. This controlled trauma makes the body produce a surge of collagen and elastin at the target site. AquaGold is a kind of hybrid treatment, combining microneedling and mesotherapy for even more benefits.

Also known as an AquaGold facial, this treatment can be used on men and women of any skin type. Specialized serums are hand-selected by your provider prior to the treatment to tackle your unique skin conditions. However, with both microneedling and AquaGold, it is important that there are no outstanding skin sensitivities or open wounds (these treatments can exacerbate such issues).

Benefits of AquaGold

Just like microneedling, AquaGold can offer a variety of benefits, but is especially well-known to help with skin hydration, minimizing pore size, and overall skin revitalization. If you have dry skin and oversized pores, which is common this time of year, you might be a good candidate for AquaGold. Given the nature of AquaGold, some clients wonder which is better, it or Botox—but the two can’t be compared. Botox is a neuromodulator that is injected to stop lines and wrinkles. It works on the muscles.

AquaGold infusions are serums of various ingredients (some of the most common include vitamin C, peptides, hyaluronic acid, and yes even Botox) injected into the top layer of the skin. It doesn’t go nearly as deep, meaning that it won’t affect muscles. While traditional Botox is going to paralyze muscle movement, AquaGold is designed to tighten the pores and limit oil production. It will not stop lines and wrinkles from forming. Many people do combine Botox with AquaGold—and results from both can last up to six months on average, making it easy to combine future maintenance treatments.

The Golden Difference

AquaGold has little to no downtime, but just like with traditional microneedling you might notice some redness for the first 48 hours. You can decrease this by keeping skin moisturized and avoiding heat. Icing the treatment site right after your appointment can be helpful, but is not necessary. AquaGold does cost more than traditional microneedling, but not in the long run. Microneedling is typically scheduled monthly in order to keep collagen and elastin forming, but AquaGold is a stronger treatment and most people only need treatments twice per year. In the long run, AquaGold can even be a more cost-effective solution that also saves you time.

AquaGold is a lot more focused on micro-infusion than simply the puncture, healing, collagen induction aspect of the process. Traditionally, microneedling works strictly through collagen induction via the micro-trauma, though many people do follow up a microneedling session with an in-office facial. When you have punctures in the skin that will close up quickly, it’s simply easier for topicals to go deeper and do their job. You can further help this process by starting this appointment with dermaplaning to remove peach fuzz and the superficial layer of skin. AquaGold introduces topicals and ingredients at a precise, shallow skin depth during the procedure itself. It’s not a 2-step process. Not only does AquaGold automatically deliver these ingredients to the right spot, but it does so more effectively than any manual method.

Designing Your Appointment

Botox, microneedling, AquaGold, dermaplaning, facials—there are countless ways you can combine treatments to get the results you want. Celebrities love AquaGold because it’s fast, effective, offers a hybrid format, and appointments only need to happen twice per year. Those are benefits anyone would love, which is why many people are making the switch from microneedling to AquaGold. The treatment itself is quick, so you can add on other procedures while still taking care of everything during your lunch hour.
