Emface vs. Facelifts, Botox, and Fillers

There are so many options for toning and tightening the facial skin that it can be overwhelming—especially when we at RefinedMD are committed to providing you with all of the best and safest options! That’s why we’ve added Emface to our suite, a non-invasive option that combines electromagnetic stimulation with radiofrequency to tighten and lift the face and brow. It’s from the makers of Emsculpt, so if you’ve fallen in love with the power to tone and build muscles without lifting a finger, you definitely want to check out their creation for facial youth-ification.

Emface actually works somewhat similarly to Emsculpt. It uses the same high-intensity electrical stimulation to contract and strengthen the muscles, except Emface is designed just for the face. When muscles are toned and tightened, there is a natural lifting effect. Think of Emface as having the capacity to do all of those crazy facial exercises, but in just a few session cycles and with zero effort. It targets the elevator muscles of the face, such as the zygomaticus major and minor as well as the frontalis, for a major lifting effect.

The frontalis muscle is in charge of lifting the brow. The zygomaticus muscles are used to move the corners of the mouth which, in turn, lift the mid-face. The result is not just a face that is more youthful, toned, and taut, but also with less wrinkles. No needles are required and it’s a comfortable procedure, although it can feel a bit strange. Sessions are just 30 minutes long and most people require just 4 – 6 initial treatments spaced a few weeks apart for optimal results.

What to Expect with Emface

The most noticeable lift with Emface will happen on the brow, corners of the mouth, and cheeks—all the most common areas you’ll see signs of aging. However, just like with any workout, results aren’t immediate. Muscles take time to get stronger. You will start to see some results one month after your first session, with full results 3 – 6 months after your final session. Maintenance appointments are then recommended once per year. You can complement your results with other treatments such as Botox or fillers.

However, one of the major perks of Emface is that it requires no needles! It’s not an injectable, so if you’re looking for a needle-free alternative then Emface can give you great results without the requirement of Botox and fillers. It requires no recovery period and poses no risks, so it can also be a great alternative for those who aren’t quite ready for a mini facelift yet. Ultimately, if you have early signs of aging in the face, skin laxity or drooping, or have noticed a lack of definition, Emface might be for you.

During Your Treatment

Most people describe Emface as a warm sensation with some light contracting and pulsing. That feeling is just the muscles getting to work. You will also feel the Emface pads on the brow lifting and pulling. Some clients describe it as soothing and many take the opportunity to snap photos or livestream their experience. The pulsating will become more intense during the session, but your body will quickly adapt. It’s common for skin to look somewhat red right after a treatment, but that will go away quickly. Plus, many clients might notice an immediate lifted look after their treatment, though quite subtle!

Your skin may also feel tighter after your treatment, and you might find that you can’t move your forehead as easily (though you will still look natural). Most people are good candidates for Emface, regardless of age, though there are some contraindications (i.e. those with metal implants or plates in their face should not get this treatment). Most patients are in their 40s or 50s, but it is never too early (or late) to prioritize a youthful, toned appearance.

Should You Get Emface?

Emface differs from any other facial tightening procedure available. One of the main perks is that it’s non-invasive and requires no downtime. It’s a natural approach to turning back the clock, depending solely on working out your own facial muscles for an appearance that is healthier and youthful. It cannot be compared to Botox or fillers because it’s simply so different, but clients do say they can move their face much more after a full Emface treatment compared to Botox. Fillers create volume, while Emface lifts. And, of course, a facelift and Emface are worlds apart in terms of the intensity of results as well as recovery periods.
