Ultherapy Tightens and Lifts

Ultherapy is known as the non-surgical facelift alternative, and celebs who are all about non-surgical treatments are raving about Ultherapy. It has quickly become an in-demand treatment at RefinedMD, in part because it’s a one and done treatment with results that can last for several months. At a certain point, there’s only so much diet and exercise can do to keep you looking healthy and youthful. There are some stubborn areas, such as the neck and under the chin, that need a little more targeting. That’s where Ultherapy shines.

Ultherapy is typically used to tighten, lift, and slim the chin, brow, neck, lower face, and chest, but can technically be used anywhere (like the stomach). It uses the same tech as for ultrasound imaging in radiology, such as during pregnancy. The machine utilizes a sound wave energy that is directed through the skin and into the muscle area. There are various attachments that allow your provider to reach superficial, medium, or deep areas. The muscle is then forced to contract and shrink, which results in a wrinkle-smoothing, sculpting effect. There are no needles, no cutting, and it takes less than an hour for most clients. A numbing agent is applied to maximize comfort and there’s a possibility some mild redness may be visible right after your Ultherapy session, but it goes away quickly.

Ultherapy Basics

Ultherapy was first approved by the FDA for non-invasive lifting in 2009, but in recent years there has been a surge in demand (by both men and women). A strong jawline is desirable by everyone, and Ultherapy can help achieve that. You can also combine it with Kybella injections if you have extra stubborn fat in this area. However, unlike Kybella, Ultherapy is totally non-invasive. It is also important to keep in mind that it is not preventative. Ultherapy does not prevent aging skin in younger clients, so it is reserved for those with early signs of aging. Those considering a mini facelift or facelift may actually be better suited to Ultherapy. That can be determined during a consultation. Celebrities like Jennifer Aniston credit Ultherapy for them avoiding facelifts to date.

After the numbing cream is applied and removed (which takes about 45 minutes to take effect), an ultrasound gel is applied to the treatment site. The handheld device is then passed over the treatment site(s) at three depths including two millimeters and 3.5 millimeters. The deeper into the muscle you go, the stronger the contraction. A specific pattern is applied down the face. The majority of patients are interested in treating the neck and jawline, but Ultherapy is growing in popularity in other areas, too. Again, if you want the best results then combining treatments can help, such as adding laser skin rejuvenation.

What to Expect

Ultherapy, even though it’s non-invasive, can be uncomfortable (which is where the numbing cream comes into play). However, there is no lingering discomfort. You can get right back to your day and apply your usual topicals, including sunscreen and makeup. During the treatment, there is a sound so the patient knows how long each contraction will last. It’s also possible for treated sites to feel number for a few weeks. This will go away on its own and is no need for concern. You may also feel a little sore in the days following your treatment.

You may notice some immediate results, but this is far from the grand finale. Ultherapy works via collagen induction therapy, and collagen takes about three months to rejuvenate. At the three-month mark, you’ll see full results that last for about one year. After one year, you can always opt for additional treatments in order to sustain those results. There are also other options, such as Sofwave, which is also non-invasive. We aim to provide our clients with all the best options so that you can individualize a treatment plan that works well for you.
